2011 Exhibit
The Personal Face of War
This exhibit celebrated Iowa’s role in supporting our nation’s fight for freedom in several wars ranging from the Civil War to our current conflicts, highlighting common men and women who rose to the call of their country to serve. It included personal interviews with over 50 area veterans. Patrons were treated to an outstanding Lincoln exhibit on loan from the Carl and Mary Koehler History Center in Cedar Rapids. A special feature of this year's museum exhibits highlighted a local group, the Wolf Creek Rangers who fought in many major battles in the Civil War. Also featured was the story of Helen Denton, the sole typist of the D-Day orders, and the amazing photos of R J McLaughlin who helped to pioneer reconnaissance photography during World War II.
